Student Conduct and Discipline > Discipline for Academic Misconduct > 5. Review of Allegations: Dean

For allegations of academic misconduct for which a hearing before the President’s Advisory Committee on Student Discipline had started by September 6, 2022, the previous version of the provisions as they existed prior to the revisions apply, and that prior version can be found here: www.calendar.ubc.ca/archive/okanagan/2122/.

5.1 When an allegation is reported to the Dean, the Dean must determine if the student has received any prior warning letters and must also contact the President’s Committee to ascertain if the student has a previous academic misconduct record at UBC.

If the student has not been given an opportunity to respond to the allegations and discuss any extenuating circumstances with the instructor, the student will be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations and discuss any extenuating circumstances with the Dean.

5.3 If, after this review, the Dean concludes that the student did not commit the misconduct, then the matter will be closed and the student will be advised of that fact and, the allegations will not be considered if any subsequent allegations of academic misconduct are made against the student.

5.4 If, after this review, the Dean concludes that the student committed the misconduct and the student does not have a previous academic misconduct record:

The Dean will notify the President’s Committee and the instructor in writing of the decision and provide a copy of the warning letter to the President’s Committee.

5.5 At the conclusion of this review, the Dean will advise the student in writing of the outcome of the review.
