Program Overview
The graduate programs (M.Ed. and M.A.) in Math Education are part of the graduate offerings in the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy. Students can pursue a wide variety of research and professional interests in mathematics teaching and learning. Large scale research projects, such as the Early Numeracy Project, can bring students into a number of regional, national, and international studies on mathematics.
Master of Arts
Admission Requirements
In addition to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies requirements, the program normally requires:
- 18 credits of senior coursework or a professional concentration in the area of interest, and
- two years of teaching experience or other relevant professional experience.
Program Requirements
The program consists of 30 credits; a thesis, normally 9 credits, is included. At least 15 credits must be at 500-level or higher. A maximum of 6 credits may be taken at the 300- or 400-level.
Master of Education
Admission Requirements
Same as for the M.A.
Program Requirements
The program consists of a minimum of 30 credits, of which 24 must be courses numbered at the 500- level. A maximum of 6 credits may be taken at the 300- or 400-level. Students select: either a program consisting entirely of courses (30 credits); or one with 27 credits of coursework, plus a 3-credit graduating project.
