Program Overview
The Religious Studies graduate program offers courses of instruction leading to both a Master of Arts (M.A.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The program at present provides training in Biblical Studies, Early Judaism, Christian Origins, and Religions of the Late Antique Mediterranean.

Admission Requirements
In addition to fulfilling the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies admission requirements, prerequisites for the Ph.D. include an M.A. in Religious Studies or equivalent.

Program Requirements
The Ph.D. program consists of coursework, comprehensive examinations, and a research dissertation. The major requirement for the Ph.D. is completion of a research dissertation meeting the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies requirements.

Admission Requirements
In addition to fulfilling the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies admission requirements, prerequisites for the M.A. program include a B.A. in Religious Studies or equivalent.
Entry into the program requires at least 18 credits at the 300 and 400 level in Religious Studies (which may include up to 6 credits at the 300 or 400 level either in the study of Asian religions (ASIA) and/or of a classical language: Ancient Greek, Biblical Hebrew, Classical Arabic or Latin).

Program Requirements
The M.A. program requires 24 credits of coursework and the writing of an MA thesis worth 6 credits (CNRS 549 or AMNE 599). The 24 credits of coursework must include CNRS or AMNE 500, and 18 must be numbered 500 or above (graduate courses), while the remaining 6 may, at the discretion of the program, be at the 300- or 400-level.
Modern Language Requirements
Students are required to demonstrate reading knowledge of an approved modern language (usually French, German or Italian). This requirement must be met before the end of the first year of study. Any courses taken to satisfy this requirement do not count towards the 30 credits required for the program.
