CHIN 422 (6) Twentieth-Century Chinese Literature
Selected short stories, novels, plays, essays, and poems from 1917 to the end of the twentieth century. For students who have a good reading knowledge of modern Chinese.
Prerequisite: 12 credits at CHIN 300 level or above is recommended.
CHIN 435 (3) Business Chinese I (Heritage)
Reading, writing, and presentation skills in business documentation, focusing on technical Chinese as used in the workplace. Emphasis on specialized vocabulary and development of communicative competence as relevant to advertising, the stock market and E-commerce. Credit will be granted for only one of CHIN 435 or CHIN 321. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.
Prerequisite: One of CHIN 217, CHIN 218, CHIN 347, CHIN 348.
CHIN 437 (3) Business Chinese II (Heritage)
Reading, writing, and presentation skills in business documentation, focusing on technical Chinese as used in the workplace. Emphasis on specialized vocabulary and development of communicative competence as relevant to legal and financial documents such as contracts, investments, and insurance. The development of early Chinese from the classical period through the Six Dynasties (5th century BCE to 6th century CE). Not to be taken concurrently with any of the following CHIN 400-level language courses: CHIN 441/ 443/ 444/ 445/ 447/ 448/ 435/ 437. Credit will be granted for only one of CHIN 491 or CHIN 431 or CHIN 494. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.
Prerequisite: One of CHIN 313, CHIN 314, CHIN 317, CHIN 318, CHIN 323, CHIN 437, CHIN 443, CHIN 444, CHIN 447, CHIN 448.
CHIN 493 (3) Classical Chinese II (Heritage)
Focus in on the Tang and Song dynasties (617 - 1279). Not to be taken concurrently with any of the following CHIN 400-level language courses: CHIN 441/ 443/ 444/ 445/ 447/ 448/ 435/ 437. Credit will be granted for only one of CHIN 493 or CHIN 433 or CHIN 494. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

CHIN 494 (6) Intensive Classical Chinese (Heritage)
A combination of CHIN 491 and 493. Readings on classical philosophy, history, literature, and culture. Not to be taken concurrently with any of the following CHIN 400-level language courses: CHIN 441/ 443/ 444/ 445/ 447/ 448/ 435/ 437. Credit will be granted for only one of CHIN 494 or CHIN 434 or both CHIN 431, CHIN 433 or both CHIN 491, CHIN 493.
