NURS: Nursing

In the clinical nursing courses the ratio between class and supervised nursing experience varies but in the overall program it is approximately 1:3; the credit values for these courses are based on both instruction and supervised nursing experience.


  1. NURS 180 (3) Stress and Strategies to Promote Well Being

    Introduction to foundational knowledge related to stress, stressors, resilience, social support, and strategies to foster physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Open to all students interested in learning about managing and navigating the stressors of student life.

  2. NURS 270 (3) Diverse Perspectives on Aging

    Examines aging experience from interdisciplinary, equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigeneity (EDI-I) (race, sex, gender, disability), and systems perspectives. Topics include older adult health and illness, age friendly communities, ageism and stigma, and end of life issues.

  3. NURS 280 (3) Human Sexual Health

    Beliefs, behaviours, and expressions of human sexuality and the link to health for students from any program. How sexuality is discussed and practiced from various perspectives, and strategies to promote healthy sexual expression and sexual health.

  4. NURS 290 (3) Health Impacts of Climate Change

    Human health impacts of the current and projected environmental crisis; study of key concepts and ideas to prepare for the future to promote wellbeing of individuals, communities and populations.

  5. NURS 300 (3) Theoretical and Professional Foundations for Nursing Practice

    Introduction to knowledge fundamental to the discipline and practice of nursing. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

  6. NURS 301 (3) Theoretical Perspectives in Nursing: Primary Health Care

    Analysis and application of theories, concepts, evidence and competencies guiding professional nursing practice in the context of primary health care. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

    Prerequisite: Five of NURS 300, NURS 310, NURS 321, NURS 322, NURS 330, NURS 352, NURS 360.

    Corequisite: NURS 362 and one of NURS 323, NURS 401.

  7. NURS 303 (3) Theoretical Perspectives in Nursing: People Living with Mental Health Challenges and Their Families

    Theory informing a life course perspective on nursing practice with people living with mental health challenges and their families is introduced. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

    Prerequisite: All of NURS 300, NURS 310, NURS 321, NURS 322, NURS 330, NURS 352, NURS 360.

    Corequisite: NURS 363 and one of NURS 323, NURS 401.

  8. NURS 310 (2) Basic Principles of Pharmacology for Nursing Practice

    Basic principles of pharmacology and the basic structure and function of each body system will be explored to demonstrate how drug interactions occur within systems. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

  9. NURS 321 (2) Foundational Skills and Competencies for Clinical Practice I

    Skills and competencies for clinical practice using a variety of modalities and learning activities. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

    Corequisite: All of NURS 300, NURS 310, NURS 330, NURS 352, NURS 360.

  10. NURS 322 (2) Foundational Skills and Competencies for Clinical Practice II

    Clinical practice through a variety of modalities and learning activities in the laboratory environment. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

  11. NURS 323 (1) Foundational Skills and Competencies for Clinical Practice III

    Skills and competencies for clinical practice across the lifespan and health care continuum through a variety of modalities and learning activities. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

  13. NURS 331 (3) Theoretical Perspectives in Nursing: Adults/Older Adults Experiencing Acute Health Challenges and Their Families

    Consolidation of fundamental theories, concepts, evidence, and competencies pertaining to acute care nursing practice with adults/older adults and their families. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

    Prerequisite: All of NURS 300, NURS 310, NURS 321, NURS 352, NURS 360.

  14. NURS 344 (2) Critical Inquiry and Leadership Synthesis

    Evidence is examined and synthesized to understand and identify theoretical insights to address a leadership challenge in professional practice. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

    Prerequisite: All of NURS 300, NURS 310, NURS 321, NURS 330, NURS 350, NURS 351, NURS 352, NURS 360.

  15. NURS 345 (3) Theoretical Perspectives in Nursing: Childbearing Individuals and their Families

    Analysis and application of theories, concepts, evidence and competencies guiding professional nursing practice with childbearing individuals and families during the transition to parenthood in a variety of practice settings and contexts. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

  16. NURS 346 (3) Theoretical Perspectives in Nursing: Infants, Children, Youth and their Families

    Analysis and application of theories, concepts, evidence and competencies guiding professional nursing practice with infants, children, youth and their families in a variety of practice settings and contexts. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

  17. NURS 350 (3) Critical Inquiry and Research in Health Care Practice

    The significance of critical inquiry and research in nursing and health care, and the fundamental concepts and processes pertaining to scientific inquiry, evidence-based practice, and research utilization in nursing. Students who take NURS 350 cannot earn credit for NURS 305, NURS 339 or NURS 342. This course is eligible for Cr/F for 19W2 only. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

  18. NURS 351 (3) Leadership, Policy, and Informatics

    The enactment of nursing leadership and policy within different health sectors and jurisdictions and the relevance and application of informatics competencies to the delivery of nursing care. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

  19. NURS 352 (3) Relational and Ethical Nursing Practice

    Relational theoretical underpinnings of nursing practice and healthcare ethics are critically examined. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

  20. NURS 353 (2) Promoting the Health of Indigenous People

    Foundations to contribute to supporting and providing high quality, ethical, respectful and culturally safe health care in partnership with Indigenous people in Canada and around the globe.

  21. NURS 354 (3) Theoretical Perspectives in Nursing: Complexities in Seniors Care

    Research and clinical practice innovations in the care of Seniors and their families (e.g., philosophies of care; age-friendly initiatives) and provide strategies for improving their health through the purposeful integration of such practices in clinical settings. This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.

  22. NURS 360 (4) Nursing Practice with Adults/Older Adults and their Families

  23. NURS 361 (7) Nursing Practice with Adults/Older Adults Experiencing Acute Health Challenges and their Families
