The Department of Theatre and Film offers undergraduate programs of study that lead to the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies. For details about current offerings, visit the Film Studies Program.
Admission to the Film Studies Honours, Major, and Minor Programs is not automatic. Students must make a written application. Students who do not have a sufficiently high average cannot be admitted. Depending on the number of applicants in a given year, an average of 76% is required for admission into the major and minor. An average of 85% is required for admission to honours. Admission is based on the average grade obtained in all first- and second-year film studies courses.
Application forms for the major and minor programs should be mailed or hand-delivered by May 7 prior to registration for third-year to:

Applicants should attach transcripts for all post-secondary institutions they have attended other than UBC. Applicants will be notified by May 31 whether they have been accepted, rejected, or put on a waiting list.
Students are required to take FIST 100 and 9 credits of FIST 200-level courses.
Students should take at least 30 credits at the third and fourth year level. At least 24 of these credits must be FIST courses, and include FIST 331 and FIST 445.
Film Studies courses taken in other programs and departments must be approved by the Film Studies undergraduate advisor.
As for Major.
Students should take at least 18 credits at the third and fourth year level. At least 15 of these credits must be FIST courses.

Students should take at least 48 credits at the third and fourth year level. At least 39 of these credits should be FIST courses, and must include FIST 331, FIST 445 and FIST 449. Film Studies courses taken in other programs and departments must be approved by the Film Studies undergraduate advisor.
