Institute of Applied Mathematics

N. Balmforth, Director

UBC's Institute of Applied Mathematics (IAM) was established in 1970 to enhance interdisciplinary teaching and research in applied mathematics. Today, the IAM comprises over seventy faculty members and nearly sixty graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. These afilliates are drawn from a variety of different departments across UBC. A key feature of the IAM is the flexibility it offers graduate students in the selection of courses and research areas, providing a broad and diverse academic preparation for their interdisciplinary research program.
