Degree Routes

Master of Education (M.Ed.)

The M.Ed. degree is designed primarily for educators who wish to gain more knowledge and expertise and who intend to return to their professional careers upon completion of the degree.

Master of Arts in Education (M.A.)

The M.A. is designed for those students who, in addition to their interest in a thematic area of study, wish to develop their expertise as educational researchers.

Note: students who feel that they might, at some future date, be interested in enrolling in a doctoral program are advised to follow the M.A. route rather than the M.Ed. route.

Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)

The Ed.D. is designed to offer an advanced degree and learning opportunities for working professionals. The aim is to develop diverse communities of scholar-practitioners who will lead research-informed change and innovation in their professional context.

Graduate Certificates in Education

Graduate Certificates are designed for specialists who wish to expand their subject matter content and enhance their professional qualifications through completion of graduate-level courses. A limited number of approved courses completed in a Graduate Certificate program may be applied toward an M.A. or M.Ed. degree. Students interested in a graduate degree in Education should seek the advice of the Director of the Graduate Programs in the Faculty of Education.
