Advocacy and Support Services

alumni UBC

alumni UBC offers a variety of programming and communications for UBC graduates that empower personal growth, support professional development, nourish pride, and enable contribution. Since its founding in 1917, alumni UBC's goal has been to link alumni with the University and with each other, and to support the mission and activities of the University.

Brand and Marketing

Brand and Marketing is responsible for sharing UBC's brand locally, nationally, and internationally through strategic marketing communications.

Campus Security

Campus Security is comprised of qualified in-house security personnel who are focused on the delivery of safety and security services to everyone within the UBC community. Campus Security is located at 2133 East Mall, just south of the main Bookstore entrance, and may be contacted directly by calling 604.822.2222.


The main function of the chaplains is to help members of the UBC community to engage with their spirituality and faith. Details of each of the chaplains' work are slightly different depending on the faith community that they serve.

Child Care Facilities

UBC operates a variety of child care centres and a preschool program.


UBC’s Comptroller ensures the University’s financial sustainability by providing financial intelligence to facilitate decision-making.

Equity and Inclusion Office

The Equity and Inclusion Office works to uphold two University policies; Employment Equity (Policy #2) and Discrimination and Harassment (Policy #3).

First Nations House of Learning

The First Nations House of Learning (FNHL) is based in the First Nations Longhouse. Its mandate is to make the University’s vast resources more accessible to Indigenous people and to improve its ability to meet their needs. It does this by organizing and maintaining Longhouse student services and spaces; overseeing public and academic programming at the Longhouse; leading and supporting strategic planning and communications on UBC Indigenous initiatives; and by providing a point of contact for Indigenous communities. It also engages with the public, media, and UBC personnel on a host of Indigenous-related matters.

Human Resources

Human Resources provides support and advice to UBC departments and a range of services for faculty and staff, including recruitment and employment, training and development for faculty and staff, labour relations, benefits administration, and the development of human resource policies.

Information Technology Services

UBC Information Technology (UBC IT) provides IT-related strategies, applications, infrastructure, and support services to the UBC community.

Ombudsperson for Students

The Office of the Ombudsperson for Students is an independent, impartial, and confidential resource to ensure students are treated fairly at UBC.

Media Relations and University Affairs

The Media Relations and University Affairs teams are responsible for communicating, mostly through the news media, the University's learning, research, and community activities, in support of UBC's Strategic Plan.

Student Legal Fund Society

The Student Legal Fund Society supports litigation, advocacy, and lobbying for improved education and access to education at UBC, and other matters of law that set broad precedent and are of concern to UBC students.

Waste Management

UBC Waste Management provides both waste management services and waste reduction education to the UBC campus community through the coordination of recycling, composting, e-waste, and litter reduction initiatives.
